Friends, This page I am creating to request all new aspiring owners not to be kennel blind.

Don’t just go with the titles of sire and dam

Don’t just believe the trader or breeders saying to you that the pup is from champion blood lines etc

Please give first priority to the HD ED (hip and elbow) certification of both sire and dam.

Second the pedigree and temperament of sire and dam, and the puppies that have been produced in previous litters from the same combination of parents.

If possible talk to the owners of the owners of puppies from previous litters.

Unless owners take the initiative to only buy from a breeder who breeds only a sire and dam who have acceptable OFA ratings, there will be more and more pups all around, which won’t be good representatives of the breed.

IF YOU LOVE THE BREED, Even you don’t own one no worries, it’s better than having a pup from some unethical breeder who breeds without proper health examinations of the sire and dam just to earn money.

More good points here…. puppies from healthy parents (both physically and mentally) who have passed all recommended health tests and have great pedigrees which contain both conformation champions and working titles (such as Shutzhund) are much more likely to grow up to be excellent examples of the Rottweiler breed.

To learn more about hip dysplasia and why it’s important to only buy from breeders whose dogs have OFA (or equivalent) certification, see my Hip Dysplasia In Dogs page. Also you’ll find lots of tips and advice on choosing a breeder on my Choosing A Rottweiler Breeder page. Taking the time and effort to research the breed and to find a responsible and ethical breeder is a vitally important part of your puppy search.

Wait for change in the rule of dog game in India
by: Girish yes Himanshu,

even the shows get fixed now a days.

But honestly as I dont give much importance to title as breeders give to rise the price of their litters to sell to majority of buyers in India who just go behind titles and not the health of pup as first priority.

BUT some few Genuine Ethical breeders are soon going to change this dirty rules of game practice by getting their Dogs and dams HD ED tested and Lead with example to counter attack business minded unthical breeders piling up all around like cottage industry.

by: Girish Yes I am aware of that situation Mr. Himanshu

been talking to few leading rottweiler breeders in India about this issue. KCI had to make it mandatory to put control over business minded breeders and differentiate them from the ethical breeders.

Many breeders take No HD ED facility available in India as a big excuse to breed without certification.

Few things which we must be aware of are

1) IMPORTED SIRE & DAM CAN DEFINETLY BE BOUGHT INTO INDIA ONLY AFTER OFA HD ED CERTIFICATIONS.
to make sure foreign kennels dont dump unbreedable rotys at their end to India

2) TO GET HD AND ED CERTIFICATION YOU DONT NEED TO TAKE YOUR DOG TO OFA, CANADA.
A Xray with reg. no. proof of identify in approved posture given in OFA Website by a recognised radiologist (In India we have good radiologists) forward to OFA with forms and instructions given.

OFA will give report as per the xray. So making excuse that no facility to check in india is just fooling rather than telling the reason dont want to spend money behind that and take risk of dog or dam not passing it 😛

Yes KCI making this mandatory can be a boon to all large dog breeds in India and their prospective owners.

Where to buy a rottweiler pup?
by: Himanshu Mehta Girish,

Great page and infomation. Unfortunately am still to come across any institute here in India that can issue these sorts of certificates to Indian bred dogs.

KCI is dumb. It just doesn’t regulate breeders. Seems as if anyone can get a KCI certificate if one knows the right people. The shows seem fixed in advance as well.

Regards,

Himanshu.
