puppy food

hey i have a 14 week rottweiler puppy and he is the pickiest eater out there, i had him on nuetro ultra and he hated that i switched it to nuetro natural choice he hated that too!

now i am feeding him a vet recommended Hills healthy advantage ( all of them are large puppy formula) my question is what do you think of this food as i couldn’t find it on your puppy food section.

Hi Kam
Some puppies are just picky eaters… and Rotties seem to be inclined to be this way.

I wouldn’t worry too much about what he likes, but simply choose a good quality food and give it to him. If he feels that you will keep offering him different food he will begin to hold out for ‘the goodies’. It’s your responsibility to give him good nutrition – but it’s HIS responsibility to eat it 🙂

He may not eat as much as you would like (or much at all) to begin with, but nature won’t allow him to starve himself and once he figures out that this is all he’s getting he’ll soon wise up. Pups of this age also tend to go through stages when they’re hungry, and then stages when they’re not. It’s a natural part of their development.

The Hills foods are only stocked by veterinarians and I haven’t ever used them myself. Although they are of a reasonable quality, they are pretty expensive for what they are – but if your pup likes it, then I’d stick with it.

Hope this helps some, best of luck!

PICKY EATE and pee turning grass yellow NEW
by: Leeann

Hi, I have a 5 month rottie boy. Had been on Orijen large breed, but noticed he’s pee was turning grass yellow, apparently that means to much protein. Orijen is around 40% and pups need about 28%. He is super hard to get to eat.. what should I do?

I have a lot of friends that are major dog lovers and a friend of mine works for a local vet. She has actually told me what the vert carries is not always the best. I have been told right now Blue Buffalo brand is getting some of the best reviews and it has all the right requirements for dogs such as rottweilers. It is what I am going to use.

Also, in the past I had a puppy who was very fussy with her food and she had a lot of digestion problems and mucous in her poop. I ended up mixing rice into her dry food (I just played with the amount until it seemed right) and that got rid of her gas, fussiness and mucous problems. Mind you, that was 8 years ago and I know dog foods have changed a lot since then.

Good luck!

puppy food
by: Julie

Hi Kam, my current rottie was very fussy about food when she was a bit younger. I always cook chicken mince and rice with some veggies and add it to my dogs dry food. I feed my dogs twice a day so when Penny wouldn’t eat her morning feed I would take her bowl away add some water to the dry mix and put it into the fridge and give it to her at her evening meal and nine times out of ten she would eat it. When I first got Penny the breeder told me to mix water with her dry food and leave it for a while to swell up. Maybe the dry food hurt their gums while they are teething. I didn’t stop mixing liquid with Penny’s dry food until her puppy teeth had gone. Hope this helps.
