female bleeding

Hi my dog Laney is eleven months and two weeks. She started bleeding last night for the first time. I don’t wanna rush the breeding process and also i am new to this area of expertise.

I love my dog and i do not wanna rush this cause she is still my baby what should i do?

Hi Melissa
Laney is just a teenager right now and she’s having her first ‘season’ which usually happens somewhere between 8 and 11 months old.

There’s nothing you need to do, as having a heat cycle is normal and she will be just fine. However, she’s definitely too young to be mated, and unless there’s a good reason to mate a dog (and they’re good specimens of the breed both physically and emotionally) then I don’t think they should be.

Spaying your pup would be better for her in terms of health and would prevent worry about unwanted puppies, so you may want to talk with your veterinarian about this procedure after her heat cycle/season is over.

Best of luck with your pup.
