Hi

I have a 21 months old Male Rottweiler who has been desexed at the age of 5 months and lately he has been humping nothing. He does this in the early mornings everytime he wakes up. When he is about to pee he suddenly goes into a humping mode while walking. And can go quite a bit. We do have another dog a small breed but at that time in the morning he is still curled up in his kennel. So my male is not doing this directly to the other dog. He has no health issues, actually in top condition

I myself correct him as this to me is a bad behaviour as i have a child and would not like him to see him do this.

His penile does not stick out while he is doing this. Just want to know if this is normal and if anyone else has experienced this with there desexed Rottie

Hi Lina
Actually, this isn’t something I’ve ever experienced with a male pup, so I can’t say what’s causing it. Although being neutered does diminish the sex drive, it doesn’t eliminate it altogether.

Perhaps there is a female dog who is in season somewhere in the vicinity, or maybe it’s just an instinctive reaction he’s having to something.

I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about, but it is unusual, so I’d recommend having your vet check him out just to make sure all is well.

It could just be a phase that he’s going through as he’s now a teenager and there are a lot of developmental changes going on at this time. Either way, your vet should be able to put your mind at rest.

He’s a beautiful dog and I wish you lots of luck with him.
