Smirnoff the adorable rottweiler

by Marvin

My dog is energy central, you could utilize her energy and light a village, loves attention but does not crave it. Loves playing, and loves playing, and loves playing. The repeat was intended. She loves long walks and socialization.

She loves learning, and learns fast, her intelligence for a dog is frightening. Another noticeable thing with this dog and I’m not sure if it’s the breed, is they learn even when they are not being taught, so be careful what they see you doing.

For example, My Smirnoff was observed doing some house keeping, my mom told me she saw her picking up the papers and throwing them out her house, bit by bit, then she went for the broom but it could not fit through the door post, how funny. These are some of the things my dog saw me doing daily while cleaning her house. She even defecate near a place where I dump her stool, well sometimes.

A great idea for a litter box is, I dig around a tree root and fill it with sand, I then teach the dog to mess there and, if your dog is a natural for covering his/her mess you are great, if not, just turn over the feces in the sand, job done, simple, great for the plant.

I must admit I wonder if my dog is at the right height and weight at times, people always says she is growing, I can never see it (hahaha). I have started her training early and will intensify this more. For now she is a great dog and I look forward to great future with her.

Sweet – Like Mine NEW
by: Lorie

She reminds me of our Mila, who is now 19 months old. Very energetic and always wanting to PLAY PLAY PLAY!!

Mila is now 90 lbs, and we thought she was a bit on the small side, but she is really filling out.

We feed her only raw food and she is thriving.

As for exercise, we starting going to the local dog park when she was 6 months old, but stopped just after Christmas this past year, because a Rottie needs more structure and work… the dog park is just a lazy way for dogs to get rid of energy.

Now we walk her twice a day for 20 to 80 minutes per session, depending on the heat. The walk is the best time for you to let your puppy know that you are in charge!!

Good luck with your little Rottie, and keep up the videos on Youtube… you can see ours “milamontreal”.

PS – Went to Jamaica for the first time in March and LOVED it!

To talk about dog food we must talk about economic climate, it???s just fear to mention.
Because what you feed your dog is based on your pocket and what you can afford.
I first started her on Purina Puppy food, the small bag, she never liked it but after a while she grew to love it, alongside that I was feeding her ??????raw prey?????? diet a mix of raw meats, like liver, chicken and grain, maybe some rice and vegetables. Note, that based on what I have read a dog cannot digest vegetables or wheat they have no amylase enzymes in their stomach to work on starch.
I must say, the ??????raw prey?????? worked wonders for her, as she was under fed in some sense from the owner I bought her from, as he could not afford to look after a lot puppies.
I then started feed her ??????Diamond Dog?????? for puppies and she never liked it either, but after a while she adapted. Water stools were present after the switch but after a day or so her stool started hardening. The Diamond Bran seems to have a good review; it received 4 stars at, Dog Food Advisors. You can visit the link below. The Diamond made her grow lean and but firm. She seems to also be more energetic on top of her already high energy. The protein content in this food is very high, and you should try not to over feed, I kind of mix this food with whatever I???m having for dinner and make sure no sharp bones are present this can harm the delicate stomach of the dogs
Next I add a ?????? salmon fish oil?????? supplement from Grizzly, this is very good and makes the dog coat superb; I get compliments on every walk, JET BLACK AND SHINNY. At times the dog may not want the oil because the scent of it is strong, and you can smell it oozing from the pores of the dog, it also helps with constipation because of the dry content of the kibbles. Don???t over use however. The dog hair may grow a bit taller than normal; I have noticed, so if you are showing your dog and that is a breed standard issue, so reduce or take the dog off the oil until the show period is over. The next food I want to try is ??????Diamond Extreme Athlete?????? but I???m holding out until she gets older, with this food the protein is much higher and fat content, your dog will bulk up and grow faster, this his however not healthy for the breed. So if you feed this type of food. You have to feed in small, small amounts with something else mixed in.

My friend fed this ??????Extreme Athlete?????? to his pit bull that is 7 months old, and trust me, the dog looks like its 1 year old. Muscular and grown, and massive, you also have to exercise the dog regular on this food. There are many links on ??????a love of Rottweiler. Com?????? you can make use of the information on feeding and types of dog food. Every dog is different and may go for a different taste and brand. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the comments Costa NEW
by: Marvin

Thanks the reply Costa,

I would caution anyone saying a puppy should not walk ?????? its redundant statement?????? Why, walking is a natural part of everyday life. Puppies can walk, but not too much of a strenuous walk. We try to protect our puppy???s hips and joints, but your puppy does so much acrobatics at times, you would think they would have hurt their tender joints even more.
Advice is good, but advice can also hurt, even in the world of medicine we think we know a lot but there are still situations that ponders the mind. And in any situation LESS is MORE, I have never over worked my adult dogs. And a keen thing to do is listen and pay attention to your dogs signals to you. Most times they will tell you when enough is enough, and even when they are ready to go home.
Again thanks for the reply, and again I will post new pictures of Smirnoff.

yes your right rottweilers do need alot of walking but at the correct age you said smirnoff is around 3-4 months so I assume she got all of her shots I have a 4 months old male rottie his name is Costa I just start walking him because he has receive all his shots so its save to walk him now and a next thing I heard when you start walking them too young it can pressure there joints and cause problem in the future some common problems like hip Dysplasia

Smirnoff’s evening walks NEW
by: Marvin

Hey Kevin thanks for the comment.

Yes and No, and no she is not too young, she is now 3 to 4 months old, will post new pictures. The walking is great for any dog, and it???s how you walk your dog, and what you do on those walks. Not only do I walk my dog because it???s healthy for Rottweiler???s and their high energy levels, base on my expertise raising more than 10 dogs in my life time, however not being of the Rottweiler breed. Walking is healthy for the immune system, digestive system, growth, muscle development and joints, just don???t over do it, and don???t allow your Rottweiler to jump or stretch too much this is defiantly not healthy while their joints are under developed. Observing the breed in its environment without any human interaction, puppy???s dash around the yard in great burst of speed, they do this naturally and I know, God did not intend for this to hurt them.

Walks are important for my dog because I use this time for social interaction, my dog loves to be greeted and pet my kids and strangers. This is great because the dog is naturally protective; I want her to know who is a friend and who the enemy are. I can truly see the difference in the dogs mental growth towards people and strangers she knows who to bark at and who to ?????? steer down, like looking down the barrel of a magnum?????? haha. That said, I think a lot of Jamaicans tend to chain their dogs for very long hours and even years, thinking this makes their animals aggressive enough to ward off intruders however this does the opposite and shortens the life span of your dog and makes it grow weary. So walk your dog and socialize your dog, it???s healthy for them.
Thanks again for the comment, and what kind of dog do you have?
I???m breeding my dog for good temperament and obedience.
